Stepping up to new industrial solutions for Power industry
Introduction:
Clair supplied a hybrid filter to a reputed Cement manufacturer based in Andhra Pradesh. The unit had its own captive power plant which was in requirement to control emissions from its Coal firedboiler exhaust gases. Clair proposed to install a hybrid filter with 1st and 2nd field as an ESP and 3rd and 4th field is a bag filter.
The dust laden gases first enter in to the ‘ESP’ field. The dust particles are ‘electro-statically charged’ in this field section and then move to the ‘bag house’ section. Majority of the dust also gets collected in the 1st field. The ‘charged’ dust particles moves over to the bag filter fabric and form a ‘porous cake’ over the surface and are filtered out from the gas stream. The dust layer forms a porous cake mainly due to the charged dust particles. Such ‘porosity’ of the dust cake layer helps to achieve a lower ‘diff. pressure’ and this also prevents any major re-entrainment during pulsing / bag cleaning operation.
The order was won in 2012 and system was commissioned in 2013. The specifications of the hybrid filter are mentioned in Table 1.
Data/ Table:
Table 1: Technical Parameters
Sl. No. | Item description | Unit | Parameters |
1. | Boiler Capacity | MW Power | 18 |
2. | Number of Boilers | No. | 1 |
3. | Gas volume (max.) | m3/h | 1,36,800 |
4. | Gas temperature | 0C | |
5. | Casing Design Pressure | (+/-) 600 mm WC
6. | Inlet dust load (max.) | gm/Nm3 | 139 |
7. | Inlet dust load (Design) | gm/Nm3 | 150 |
8. | Outlet dust load | gm/Nm3 | ≤ 20 |
9. | 1st & 2nd Field – ESP | ||
10. | No of gas passages | No. | 17 |
11. | Total collection area | m2 | 1,275 |
12. | 3rd & 4th Field – Bag Filter

Observations:
Clair successfully implemented and commissioned the installation to achieve the emission of ≤ 20 mg/Nm3with a pressure drop of 120 mmWC. Since it’s commissioning it is operating successfully as per the designed emission norms.
